Does Transformers: Fall of Cybertron hit Megatron in his big shiney, metal face? Find out in our preview!
In Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, the follow-up to 2010′s highly-praised War for Cybertron, the Autobots are swarmed by Megatron and his Decepticons in the introductory mission as we take control of fan favourite, Bumblebee.
Immediately tossed into an intense confrontation, Fall of Cybertron plays out as an incredibly stellar third-person shooter. Taking an all-action approach with linear path and guns a’blazin’, but without a cover system, that unexpectedly, encourages fast and forward-thinking gameplay that didn’t pause with drawn-out portions huddled behind boxes.
Vehicle transformations work well, your massive machine allowed to alter its form at any time (eventually) to best suit the situation at hand. Like the shooting mechanics, I found all forms vehicular combat to be simple and effective, and more importantly, easy to understand without worrying about button mapping.
However.
As brilliant and enjoyable as Fall of Cybertron is, you walk into every situation seeing the words “EXPECTED”.
I understand this is only a demo and "this preview may not fully reflect the final product", but I do not see any conceivable alterations that will fundamentally change Fall of Cybertron (although the addition of Dinobots may make a difference).
Still, some minor points aside, Fall of Cybertron is a nice looking, fast, frantic and enjoyable third-person shooter, and the demo is now available to download for free on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, and will be available to buy when it's released on August 21st.
