Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Preview

Does Transformers: Fall of Cybertron hit Megatron in his big shiney, metal face? Find out in our preview!

In Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, the follow-up to 2010′s highly-praised War for Cybertron, the Autobots are swarmed by Megatron and his Decepticons in the introductory mission as we take control of fan favourite, Bumblebee.

Immediately tossed into an intense confrontation, Fall of Cybertron plays out as an incredibly stellar third-person shooter. Taking an all-action approach with linear path and guns a’blazin’, but without a cover system, that unexpectedly, encourages fast and forward-thinking gameplay that didn’t pause with drawn-out portions huddled behind boxes.

Vehicle transformations work well, your massive machine allowed to alter its form at any time (eventually) to best suit the situation at hand. Like the shooting mechanics, I found all forms vehicular combat to be simple and effective, and more importantly, easy to understand without worrying about button mapping.

However.

As brilliant and enjoyable as Fall of Cybertron is, you walk into every situation seeing the words “EXPECTED”.

I understand this is only a demo and "this preview may not fully reflect the final product", but I do not see any conceivable alterations that will fundamentally change Fall of Cybertron (although the addition of Dinobots may make a difference).

Still, some minor points aside, Fall of Cybertron is a nice looking, fast, frantic and enjoyable third-person shooter, and the demo is now available to download for free on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, and will be available to buy when it's released on August 21st.

Spec Ops: The Line: Preview

We put 2K Games latest offering through its paces, does it fare better or worse than the post-apocalyptic war zone it offers?

Spec Ops: The Line is a change from the usual dirt and brick of modern warfare to a post-apocalyptic kingdom of tarnished gold and sand-battered chrome. We're in Dubai, and things are looking terribly opulent. Towers that once proudly scratched the sky are now buried and bridged by extreme dunes and deadly sandstorm. The few survivors huddle in boutiques, with the wealth around them meaning sweet F.A compared to the value of basic water.

Spec Ops: The Line isn't your average shooter, it's bleak, it's dark, and it wants you to think, and not just about your choice of weapons.

In the preview I played, I started up in the air, taking out enemy helicopters over Dubai in spectacular action movie fashion with dust storms, huge explosions, and destroyed skyscrapers in the distance, before one collided with my veichle. Transcending into present time, I found myself assuming the role of protagonist Captain Martin Walker along with Lugo and Adams who are in search of John Conrad (the soldier who went down in the chopper).

You're quickly shown the ropes of how to use command tactics, that whilst they take some getting used to, they serve their purpose well. Fighting against rebels in the first portion of the demo and then PMC soldiers in the second part, Lugo and Adams help you in what are otherwise a bleak and intermittent situations; and you're more than grateful.

The settings in Spec Ops: The Line are quite impressive, with levels that see you fighting in a wrecked airliner, around skyscrapers (outside and inside), all very nicely rendered, although a gripe with the graphics, are the characters faces, that can seem a little waxy, but I'm hoping this is fixed with the full release.

Spec-Ops: The Line does have a real sense of scope and scale during some repelling down skyscraper sequences. Fighting in destroyed Dubai with the sand storms and the ability to use sand as a weapon adds a small unique gameplay element, and adds an extra plus to how you'll tactility use your environment.

From what I played, The Line went to a good length showcasing many gameplay elements and story, that although was rough around the edges, was enjoyable. Full review up soon!

Watch Dogs: PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Possibly Wii U

In an interview at E3, Ubisoft senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key confirmed to IGN that Watch Dogs is headed to consoles and PC and could even come to Wii U.

“PS3, 360 and PC,” Key said when he was asked to confirm which systems Watch Dogs is to be released on.

When asked about the chances of the game appearing on Wii U:

“Not at this time," he said. "We have so many titles in development for Wii U right now that we need to keep that team focused and this is a very very ambitious game. But it’s not out of the question.”

The fact Ubisoft isn't already taking advantage of the Wii U's gamepad is a little odd, as it would be brilliant controlling all the hacking via the touchscreen.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Preview Trailer

Mortal Kombat VS DC have too much Mortal Kombat? Then Injustice: Gods Among Us may be just for you.

What if our greatest heroes became our greatest threat? From the indomitable DC Comics and the makers of the definitive fighting game franchise Mortal Kombat comes Injustice: Gods Among Us, a bold fighting game featuring a large cast of favorite DC Comics icons. Set in a world where the lines between good and evil are blurred, players will experience heroes and villains engaging in epic battles on a massive scale. A deep, original story compliments the fighting action that pits many of the great heroes and villains from the DC universe against each other -- Batman, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman and many others lose their allegiances and fight for Injustice!

A press release described it as "a bold new fighting game franchise that introduces a deep, original story featuring a large cast of favorite DC Comics icons such as Batman, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman and many others."

We'll have more on Injustice: Gods Among Us during E3 2012, so stay tuned! In the meantime, check out the trailer below!

[UPDATE] Injustice's character roster is split into two categories: "Power" characters like Superman, and "Gadget" characters like the Batman. Depending on a character's class, they'll be able to interact with the environment in different ways. Batman may be able to slam Superman's head into a parked car, for instance, while Superman is able to, erm, actaully slam a parked car into Batman's head.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 – Reveal Trailer

Change is coming to Call of Duty...

We brought you news of the new Call of Duty: Black Ops II leak yesterday, and today, we have the official trailer.

A bold future looms with CoD: Black Ops II, making a remarkable leap in terms of the series franchise, Black Ops II heads to a 'close futuristic' setting. But although there are high tech weaponry, robots and assault vehicles, the scenes show a much realistic horror -- cyber terrorism.

Playing as Black Ops protagonist Alex Mason's son, David Mason, as he stands on the brink of war. China has unsurprisingly risen to become a world power and is embroiled in a modern cold war with the United States over the most precious resource on the planet – rare earth elements.

It's a highly plausable world, and Treyarch have worked incredibly hard on creating the game. The Story was dreamt up over a year ago in conjunction with legendary script writer David Goyer (Batman Begins).

Check out the trailer after the jump, and we'll bring more news as we get it.

Black Ops is back. Experience near-future black operations with the next evolution of the legendary Call of Duty: Black Ops. Pre-order now http://www.callofduty.com/blackops2. Out 11.13.12.
